Monthly Youth Forum discussed two papers entitled “the importance of political organization” and “creating strong and conscious Eritrean Youth”, generating a lively debate among the participants on the 18th of January, 2008. The papers were presented by Eferem Kidane and Merhawi Woldekirstos respectively. Each presentation was followed by debate among the participants and went on for four hours.

Efrem talked about the importance of political organization in regards to Eritrea and other countries with historical context. While Merhawi discussed the need for a scientific research, developing a strategy for implementation to tackle the social problems and understand Eritrean history and culture for those who were born or grew up in the UK and to help the new comers to integrate in the society.

The Monthly Youth Forum was set up five months ago with the aim to raise political and ideological awareness of young people, to learn about Eritrea’s history and discuss, debate, and propose solutions to major issues facing youth and their communities. The forum is also used as a platform for older Eritreans to share their knowledge, experiences and engage with young people.  It encourages exchange of ideas in order to inform, challenge, inspire and build a common understanding among young people.
